Managed under the umbrella of Casino group, Big C Vietnam is one of the major retailers in the world that operations its business in the form of ‘Hypermarket’.
The company has a strong hold in Vietnam which is considered one of the strong Southeast Asian nations, the other one being Indonesia, that possess optimum potential for eCommerce players and the market as a whole.
With presence across the globe including Vietnam, Thailand, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, France, Madagascar and Mauritius the brand has more than 12.000 stores. Despite 32 physical stores around Vietnam, the group lately decided to shut down its eCommerce site Cdiscount by the end of this year.
It is believed that the closure is part of a policy change from Thailand’s Central Group. The group bought the supermarket chain recently in April. The deal was closed at US$1.14 billion. According to sources, the company is all set to change the chain’s name as well. It has other eCommerce brands and other established sites that it believes, have chances to expand and penetrate better into Vietnam market.
The e-tailer has been operating since 2014 and specializes in mobile phones, beauty products, household goods and groceries.
Initially, it aimed at becoming the top online retailer in Vietnam, though Cdiscount could make only a little impact on the market in two years.
